SONY
Scott s
Sony Advertisement- Sony usually advertises things through commercials, either in game or on TV. Sony isn’t doesn’t advertise each individual product they have, but advertise the main new, “WOW” items. Like PlayStation 3, new cameras or ext. But it is they’re job to commercialize new games for the PlayStation 3 console.

Sony Quality- Sony's products have managed to maintain a strong reputation. Despite sometimes carrying a higher price over other brands many buyers feel that Sony made solid, quality product and were willing to pay the price for the object. The PlayStation 3 was owned by manufacturing delays, there was a problem of all those Sony-made batteries, same with some digital batteries. Also Sony sound quality is something we really don’t think about, but they’re sound quality is known for bass. The base top over all other products, doesn’t have that rumble sound in the sound when you play music really loud.

What People Think Of Sony? – What people usually think what they here of Sony? They think of an expensive product to buy. Yes people know that it’s expensive but arguably the best brand out there overall. Teenage wise, if they heard Sony. first thing that comes up to they’re head is PS3, also known as PlayStation 3, which is an amazing game system. But the leading comparator Xbox has made higher sales then this product. Some argue quality is better for Sony but gaming still comes second to Xbox.

Team Meetings

Well, for my own sake since I left early, and for everyone else's since they might not have been there, have we decided on a revision for when we will be meeting?

October 23 '08 Meeting

Hello guys and girls, so here are some of the topics that were discussed at the metting yesterday

- New Logo design we are no longer able to use the term GET because i found out that a company in Toronto has already used it Green Enterprise Toronto by law we cannot use it as it is Brand Confusion
-Next we took a look at the reduce the juice tralior and Randy came to talk about it to the select few who were involved
-Split into research teams so if you havent already signed up you can choose at the next meeting, we need research people so dont wait until the night before get as much info as you can about tires, batteries the cost the weight basically anything you think is important even if you havent picked a team PLEASE BRING RESEARCH FOR THURSDAY...OR ELSE :P!!!!! we need to get this going!
-Publicity come up with logos and names everyone else can be involved as well but remember to draw them out or just print ideas

Thank you

Electric Motor

Grahm siad that we would need about 7kW to power our car.
If that is a good amount of power then keep in mind that electric motors are rated by how much power they can make constantly for a long period of time. A motor that is rated at 7kW might use less than 7kW most of the time while the car is cruising. Also a motor rated at 7kW should be able to produce at least 1okW of power for short bursts (acceleration). The only thing that stops the motor from producing 1okW of power constantly is overheating. So if we want to save weight and money we might be able to use say, a 5kW moter that can produce 7kW under accelleration.

NEW TEAM NAME!!!

Alright guys...this is it. We finally chose a team name! :D

GREEN ENERGY TEAM

or G.E.T.

So we hope that each team member can come up with some kind of design for this logo, and by next week we can decide on a final idea. I myself have some cool designs and I'm looking forward to sharing them with everyone! See you guys next week!

http://www.logomaker.com/ is really useful for coming up with ideas that we can build on. To log in on Logo Maker use the user name: reducethejuicewci and the password: reducethejuice . If you save the logo when your done then others can see you ideas as well as edit them and save them as a new logo. If you know how to use HTML then you can use free web logo button to get the code to insert the logo on the blog. Don't put the logo on the blog in any way other than pasting the text in though because any other way is ILLEGAL according to the terms of service.
Here is one idea I think might work:

Solar Panels Energy Information and Cost

In order to have our car accelerate at "x" metres per second, than we must have xy watts of power, where "x" is the acceleration and "y" is the mass of the car in kilograms. With the batteries we're going to be sticking in the car, we will likely end up having a mass of about 1000 kg. Also, a good speed of acceleration would be about 7 metres per second, therefore making it so that we need 7000 watts to power our car, or 7 kilowatts. 7kW = 10 horsepower

Retail price for solar cells are currently running at 4.85 US dollars per watt. This makes it so that it would cost $33,950 to buy enough solar panels to constantly run the car. However, with batteries, it would be z=xy, where "z" is kilowatt hours, "x" is kilowatts the solar cells can generate, and "y" is time the cells are charging. I am not sure how long we want our car to run for, but if it is, say, 1 hour, than we would either need to charge $33,950 worth of solar cells for one hour, or $16,975 worth of solar cells for two hours, or $11316.67 worth of solar cells for three hours, etc.
NOTE: If we are able to get a sponsorship from Arise Technology Information, than they might either give us solar cells at a reduced rate for one of their solar cell projects.

Team Name/Logo Ideas

Okay so you guys can just log in to blogger, and edit this post to add ideas about team names and logos. Just make sure you put your name at the end so we know who's idea it is :) Don't forget to do research this week too and bring your info next Thursday! Happy Thanksgiving weekend! - Laura

We could do an acronym.
The U of W hydrogen car teams name is:

I think the text looks cool but the acronym stinks:
I waft, NO YOU waft!
We could be:
- WCI EVO - Electric Vehicle Operation, as in
"We are the from the WCI
EVO could be about the EVOlution of the car to electric.
maybe - ECO Team - Electric Car Operation Team
or - GREEN - Group Researching Electric Energy Needs
Aaron Z.

I love Aaron's idea! Keep them coming!

I thought of some ideas to work with - Maybe something to do with ZERO (since it's going to be a zero-emission vehicle!) and it stand for Zero Emission Renewable... something? haha.. Or maybe Clean/Green Machine Team....? Clearly Aaron is MUCH better at this than me... but the more ideas the better right? I can't wait to hear more tomorrow!

Cheers,
Sara

Nexa Fuel Cell

If you want to see the Hydrogen PowerPoint again it's in Google Documents called "Aaron's Hydrogen Fuel System."
PS. I emailed the Heliocentris and figured out that a Nexa computer controlled fuel cell system would cost about $15,000.

http://www.heliocentris.com/en/rd_solutions/nexa_system_solution.html
-Sellers Website —Look at the Data Sheet and Testimonials Nexa PDFs
-Read about the “Drive Set”
http://www.interstatetraveler.us/Reference-Bibliography/Dynamic%20Fuel%20Cell%20Performance%20Final%20Jan%202004%20U%20of%20M%20Rochester%20MN.pdf
-Detailed summary of all of the features and safety features that this system has

My dad also works at the U of W and he has discovered that two different research groups may have older fuel cells very similar to this one that they don't need anymore. I made up a short description of who we are and what we are trying to do that I emailed to them:

The Waterloo Collegiate Institute alternative fuel vehicle group is currently working with Reduce the Juice (www.reducethejuice.ca) to build a zero-emission two passenger electric vehicle. This vehicle will be used by Reduce the Juice at public events to educate and motivate communities about reducing carbon emission.

Currently the design team is looking at building a low speed electric car powered by a 2 to 10 kW DC motor. The energy source for this vehicle is still undecided though several options are being considered. The easiest and cheapest option which we have looked at is using is rechargeable batteries.
Another option we are looking at is buying a complete 1 to 5 kW PEM fuel cell drive system from a company such as Heliocentris. (www.heliocentris.com/en) The downside to this option is that it would be quite expensive as well as more complicated.

Another option that the WCI design team is looking at is to find a local research or engineering group who has an older system that is no longer being used. The advantages of this option are buying the fuel cell system at a reduced cost and even the possibility of having the unit loaned to Reduce the Juice. Another advantage of finding a used system would be having someone knowledgeable in the operation of that particular system who could assist in educating the team members involved in operating the fuel cell.

Meeting Place

This will be the collaborative project site for Reduce the Juice 08 09 at WCI.
Put any ideas about organization in this post.

To make the posts easier to search, when you are writing a post there is a box at the bottom where you can add labels for your post.
If we use these it will be very helpful because then when we want to see all of the posts about one subject such as "hydrogen" we can just click on that label and then read all the hydrogen posts.
Try to make sub categories so if your post is about lithium ion batteries give your post the label of "batteries" and "lithium ion" so that we can look at only Li ion if we want.
To give a post a preexisting label you can click "Show all" when you give your post a label but feel free to make up your own.
This post has a bunch of labels to use as examples.

Also try to sign your posts at the bottom so that we know who wrote it.

Everyone can put their name, phone number, email address, grade and other info in the spread sheet called Group Members in Google Documents.
